The Percussion Studio is under the Direction of Caleb Hinz and Katie Jobe.
The Grapevine High School Percussion Studio is an extension of the Band Program that participates in all band events, as well as a few competitions/concerts that are unique to Percussion.
Percussionists will spend the Fall Semester in Marching Band performing in one of two different sections; Front Ensemble or Battery. The Front Ensemble consists mainly of keyboard instruments (Marimba, Vibraphone, Xylophone, etc.) and provides essential melodic and harmonic content, while the Battery consists of Marching Drums (Snares, Tenors, Basses), and performs more rhythmic and rudimental styles of drumming to accompany the band. In November, the entire Percussion Studio will participate in the Lone Star Drumline Contest.
During the Fall, all students are also required to audition for Region Band. This is a two-phase process that takes place in early December. We will have limited time to work on the audition material as a group, so Private Lessons are strongly encouraged. For information about Private lessons, please email [email protected].
During the Spring Semester, percussionists are divided into three Concert Bands. In addition to Concert Band Music, students will also be required to perform at least one solo, and multiple Percussion Ensembles.
In February, all percussionists will perform in our annual Percussion Concert. For the first time this year, the Percussion Studio will be also competing in the TCU Percussion Festival in April.
The Percussion Studio is very integrated into the Grapevine Community, often performing at State Send-offs, District Staff Events, and other campus events. The Drumline is also frequently asked to perform at private events, such as Graduation Parties, Birthday Parties, etc. If you would like to have the drumline play at your event, please send an email to [email protected] for information about pricing and availability!
