Celeste Markey
Originally from Orange, California, Celeste Markey currently maintains a diverse freelance career in Dallas, Texas as an orchestral performer, chamber musician, and music educator. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of California, Irvine, received her Master of Music Performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and recently completed a Performance Diploma at Southern Methodist University.
Celeste has performed with a variety of orchestras across the United States on both clarinet, bass clarinet, and E-flat clarinet, including the Fort Collins Symphony and Boulder Philharmonic in Colorado, the Richmond and Williamsburg Symphonies in Virginia, the Fayetteville Symphony (North Carolina), the Charleston Symphony (South Carolina), the Las Colinas and Austin Symphonies in Texas, and the Las Vegas Philharmonic. She regularly performs with the Texas New Music Ensemble in Houston, and can also be heard as principal clarinet on the Dallas Chamber Choir’s 2019 Spotify album of Mozart’s Requiem. She was also a featured performer at the International Clarinet Association's 2016 ClarinetFest and will return to the Fort Worth ICA convention in 2021.
Committed to educating the next generation of clarinetists, Celeste maintains a private teaching studio in Dallas, and has given masterclasses across the United States, Germany, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. Former students have gone on to pursue music performance and education at SUNY Potsdam, SUNY Fredonia, New York University, the University of Kansas, Ithaca College, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Fullerton, Southwestern University, and Trinity University in San Antonio. Celeste served on the faculty of the Mahanaim School’s collegiate conservatory in Huntington, New York from 2016-2018, and is proud to have sent many clarinet students to TMEA All-State and All-Region bands over the years. In her free time, she enjoys a good cup of coffee, hanging out with her cats Theo and Toby, and cycling.
