The All Region Auditions are coming up the last week of November. ALL Wind Ensemble and Honors Band students are expected to prepare the music for the audition. Freshman may prepare the Freshman cuts or all of the etudes - whatever they have worked out with their private lesson teachers.
If you are in Symphonic or Concert Band and want to audition, you must be working with a private lesson teacher and arrange a listening time with a director individually.
Directors will determine who has prepared to audition and therefore must approve a student to compete.
In order to assess the student's progress and offer them feedback in preparation, all of the band directors will be listening to each student once a week starting Oct. 29th. These are graded listenings and will affect their grade in band.
Each director will either post a sign up sheet on their doors for listenings or create some sort of electronic sign up sheet.
Here are the director assignments:
Gill - Bassoons, Bass Clarinets, Saxophones, Euphoniums, and Tubas
Janicula - Trumpets, Horns, Trombones
Trinh - Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets
Bowman - Percussion
*ALL Applied Music students will play for a director during their class time- starting next week, not the 29th - no need to sign up for a time outside of class. You may play for any director, not necessarily the one assigned for your instrument group. See Mrs. Gill for cuts.
Sign up sheets will go up or go "live" by Thursday of this week for next week.
Music Cuts - Please divide each etude up into 4 equal parts. You will play a cut from each etude at each listening.
Winds will rehearse from 8:40am-9:40am inside - music rehearsal. Watch the Remind for location in the morning.
Percussion and Dance Guard - please contact your instructors for your specific info.
From UIL Music Region 31: The UIL contest has been rescheduled to Monday, Oct. 22nd.

Wednesday, 10/17 - 7am - 9:15am
Thursday, 10/18 - 8:40am-9:20am, Parade in the evening - schedule to come
Friday, 10/19 - 7am-8:20am - Homecoming rehearsal with Hoco Court in MAC/run show

Thanks again for your continued flexibility.
The Birdville Contest scheduled for 10/13/18 has been cancelled due to impending rain throughout the day. The contest officials emailed this morning during our practice. This is unfortunate but we still have UIL contest scheduled for the 16th and a final US Bands contest in Saginaw on the 27th. Let's hope for good weather for those events!
Dear Mustang Band Family,
Due to the high probability of rain next week on Tuesday and the unavailability of the MAC, I need to change our rehearsal schedule. We will have a very challenging contest on Saturday the 13th and it would not be acceptable or wise for me to deny the band rehearsal time (cancelling because of rain or just not marching) as we prepare for this contest. I understand this is not much lead time, however, I have been watching the weather forecast and communicating with GHS coaches, and have to make a decision based on the information I have received so far.
Therefore, our schedule for next week will be:
Monday – no school, no rehearsal
*Tuesday – 8:40am-9:40am: inside music rehearsal if it is raining as predicted
Wednesday – PSAT – no AM rehearsal. 4:30-7:00pm rehearsal – location TBA. (this has been on the calendar since the summer)
Thursday – 7am-9:20am rehearsal AND 4:30-6:30pm rehearsal. This PM rehearsal is added
Friday – 7am-9:15am rehearsal (this has also been on the calendar since summer)
*If there is NOT rain on Tuesday morning and the grass field is dry we can have normal Tues. morning rehearsal. Watch the REMIND for updates.
We know this will be an intense few days – Thursday, Friday, and Saturday but UIL contest is right around the corner – the next Tuesday and we want to set the students up for success the best we can and not rehearsing would not do that. We are asking for just one big push in preparation to the UIL contest then our schedule will return to normal to prepare for our final contest on the 27th. After the 27th – our rehearsal schedule will lighten quite a bit.
The band has made awesome strides in the last week and we would like to continue this forward progress while trying to work around Mother Nature. We know you may have a conflict on Thursday, but please, please try to make a change so you can attend the rehearsal. This is critical to the success of the whole group. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the GHS Mustang Band!
