Zach Worley
Zach Worley is from Queen City, TX. Sticking to his East Texas roots, Zach attended Stephen F. Austin State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, graduating in 2020. Zach then attended Texas Tech University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance in 2023. Zach’s trumpet teachers include Kevin Whalen, Andrew Stetson, Richard Harris, Jacob Walburn, Daniel Kelly and Gary Wurtz.
Zach maintains a trumpet lesson studio composed of students from Lewisville ISD and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. He teaches trumpet for Hebron High School, Grapevine HS, Creek Valley MS, Arbor Creek MS, Killian MS, and Cross Timbers MS. Zach’s students have achieved great success with many 1st chair all-region placements and superior ratings on solos at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest. His favorite part about teaching trumpet is getting to send wonderful, talented musicians out into the world that are also GREAT people.
In his professional playing career, Zach has performed with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Steamboat Symphony Orchestra, and San Angelo Symphony Orchestra where he currently is a regular substitute trumpet. Zach has also played a wide variety of musicals and has done extensive work subbing in as a lead trumpet for jazz bands and for entertainment events.
In his collegiate playing career, Zach participated in the National Trumpet Competition from 2018-2023. In 2022, he advanced to the semi-final round of the Graduate Solo Division performing Brandon Ridenour’s arrangement of Gershwin’s Three Preludes. He returned to the Graduate Solo Division in 2023, performing the third movement of Desenclos’ Incantation Threne et Danse. Zach was a member of small ensembles advancing to the quarter-final round in 2018, 2019 and 2023, and was a member of a large ensemble in 2022, which advanced as well.
Zach spent three years as a marching member of Drum Corps International as a lead trumpet. He marched with The Cadets (2016) and The Blue Devils (2017 DCI World Champions, 2018 Soloist). Zach spent the summers of 2022 and 2023 giving back to the activity, teaching trumpet for The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps under the brass direction of Lisa Tatum.
As a trumpet ensemble coach, Zach assists the Hebron Trumpet Ensemble who, in their inaugural year, placed 3rd in the 2024 High School Ensemble Division of the National Trumpet Competition for their performance of Erik Morales’ “X1.” In 2025, two Hebron Trumpet Ensembles advanced to the live Semi-Final round that will occur in March 2025 at TCU. Zach assists the ensembles under the direction of Hebron director, Brock Alsaffar.
Outside of teaching trumpet, Zach has a huge passion for marching band. He has a very expansive list of choreography clients from 1A-6A including many state medalists. Because of his background at a small school, he is always trying to bring effective and quality movement to bands across the state regardless of classification or location.
In his free time, Zach’s favorite thing to do is spend time with his loving wife, Bethany. Outside of that, he enjoys working out, playing golf and disc golf with friends, playing Rocket League, and watching YouTube videos.
