Stewart Rhodes

Stewart Rhodes is a professional trombonist and private teacher in the DFW metroplex. Mr. Rhodes grew up in Hurst, TX and attended Birdville High School. At Birdville, Mr. Rhodes was a multi-year All-Area trombonist and finished his senior year as the lead trombonist in the All State Jazz Ensemble. His directors and mentors at Birdville High School include Mike Cheripka, Gary Barnard, and Jolette Wine.
Mr. Rhodes holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Currently, he is working on completing his Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of North Texas. Mr. Rhodes has studied under world-renowned trombonists including James McNair (former President’s Own Marine Band), John Kitzman (former Dallas Symphony Orchestra), M. Dee Stewart (former Philadelphia Orchestra), Peter Ellefson (former Seattle Symphony), Carl Lenthe (former Bavarian State Opera Orchestra), and Dr. Denson Paul Pollard (New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra). His current teachers at UNT include Steve Menard, Dr. Natalie Mannix, and Tony Baker. 
Mr. Rhodes has performed with the Columbus Philharmonic, Carmel Philharmonic, Southern Indiana Wind Ensemble, and the St. Joseph Municipal Band. He has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City with the Wallarab Jazz Ensemble and the New York Voices. During the summers, Mr. Rhodes has attended and performed at the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, Eastman Trombone Symposium, Southeast Trombone Symposium, Third Coast Trombone Retreat, Alessi Seminar, International Trombone Festival, and the Miami Classical Music Festival. 
Recent musical accomplishments include being a finalist for the Amarillo Symphony 2nd trombone position, semi-finalist for the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra 2nd trombone position, and winner of the 2020 Emory Remington Trombone Choir Competition. Mr. Rhodes looks forward to a wonderful year as a GCISD private lesson instructor and a marching/brass tech for the GHS Mustang Band!
