Renee McGee

Renée McGee’s trumpet has brought her all over North America in the past few years as she has built a diverse musical career as a trumpet player, bandleader, entertainer, recording artist, and pedagogue. Renée completed her Bachelor’s of Music in classical trumpet at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a recipient of the coveted Kenan Music Scholarship, and she is currently pursuing her Master's of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, where she is honored to be playing split lead trumpet in the 7-time Grammy-nominated UNT One O'Clock Lab Band.
Over the past year, Renée has remotely collaborated on three different jazz albums and several more recording projects, taught private trumpet lessons on video platforms to students of all ages, and performed live, choreographed shows at Busch Gardens amusement park in her home state of Virginia.  Prior to the pandemic, Renee distinguished herself as an in-demand lead trumpet player at national swing dance events and even directed her very own North Carolina-based jazz band, South Road Swing, from 2019 to 2020. In 2018, Renée made her West Coast debut as the first woman ever to play lead trumpet in the prestigious Disneyland All-American College Band, and in 2019, she returned to her classical roots and toured French-speaking Canada with the Orchestre de la Francophonie.
Renée is looking forward to building a studio of trumpet students who will be encouraged to follow their curiosity and always be willing to try something new on the horn. She plans to remain in Texas for several years, and she is excited to see what she can contribute to the vibrant musical culture of the state.
