Just a reminder that SASi camps are being held on July 9th and 10th at Heritage Middle School. This is a requirement for all leadership and band council. Other band members who are interested in attending will be charged $50.

Good evening Mustang Band!
I hope everyone is enjoying Father's Day and staying out of the weather! Here are some updates for everyone:
-If your instrument is not in working order OR you don't have an instrument to play this summer, please let me know! I will do all I can to help you.
-Remember that our summer band will be held at Heritage Middle School! Please check the band calendar for specifics.
-There will be two fundraising opportunities right at the beginning of the year. The 59 minute fundraiser is held during a summer band lunch break and concession sales will occur during football season. We will have sign ups for both of those when we get closer to the start of school.
-Please think ahead to summer band now by getting yourself ready! Water, exercise, and getting outside are all good ways to prepare your body for summer band. Couch potatoes will struggle with the heat and constant activity!
-Grapevine High School has some excellent lesson teachers, but I would like for every member of the band to consider taking lessons if you are not already. If I need to hire additional staff to get everyone set up with a teacher, that is a great problem to have! Please let me know if you would like additional information. Lesson sign ups will be at Band Fair on August 3rd.
-Play your instrument! The single most important thing a student can do in the Grapevine Band is sound amazing on their instrument. Do you know all 12 scales in multiple octaves? How fast can you articulate? Can you sight read well enough to read an etude out of the all-region etude books?
-DCI watch party is June 20th! I will see you there!

State and local policy has been updated to require a pre-participation physical for all students involved in marching band. There is also a form to be filled out and signed by a physician. The standard UIL FORM
The goal would be for this to be completed before the first day of full summer band, unless you choose to have it done earlier. Moving forward, we will require it every year, and the physical is good for one calendar year.
If a student has one for Athletics, they do not need a second one for band-just get a copy of the original to a band director please.
IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY GOTTEN THE PHYSICAL:
Our students can get their physicals done at CHHS on May 24th in their indoor activity facility. They call it their PAC (ours is MAC). This is done by the GCISD Athletic Trainers. Cost is $20.
